Taliban Release Video Showing Sgt. Bergdahl’s Handover to U.S. Forces
On Wednesday, the Taliban released a video purportedly showing Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's handover to U.S. authorities.
The video shows Bergdahl, clean-shaven and dressed in traditional Afghan clothes, sitting in the back of a pick-up truck with several Taliban fighters—one of whom is holding a white flag— standing nearby. At least 12 Taliban fighters, carrying RPGs and machine guns, are shown scattered throughout the hills surrounding the clearing.
Several minutes into the video, a U.S. Blackhawk helicopter lands in the clearing, and three American troops, all out-of-uniform, get out. Two of the Taliban take Bergdahl to meet the U.S. forces halfway. Handshakes are exchanged and, after a quick security patdown of Bergdahl, the helicopter takes off. The entire exchange takes less than a minute. As the helicopter flies away, the video shows a message, written in broken English, across the screen—"Don' come back to afghanistan."
A spokesman said the Pentagon is aware of the video.
