George Zimmerman's Wife Is Filing for Divorce
Seven weeks after he was acquitted of murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman has been hit with divorce papers from his wife, Shellie. The Associated Press reports that Shellie Zimmerman's attorney cited "disappointment" as the reason behind the divorce proceedings.
Shellie pleaded guilty late last month to perjuring herself in her soon-to-be-ex-husband's case when she lied about their finances during a bail hearing. She was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service.
In an interview with Good Morning America last week, Shellie admitted that she was already pondering leaving her husband:
During her appearance ... Zimmerman refused to say if she and her husband were still together.
She added that she "wants to have children and stay married."
"With George?" the interviewer asked.
"That's something I'm going to have to think about," Shellie Zimmerman replied.
Shellie, who was not at home the night of Martin's killing after she and George had a fight, says she believes George's version of what led to the shooting. But she added on Good Morning America that she has "laid awake at night just thinking that I wish to God the circumstances had been different."
