Our legacy is secure: many of the emoji previously considered lost to the sands of time (and Unicode deliberation) were just approved for a future update. This means avocados, pregnant red dress lady, and pickles are all coming to your phone in the near future.

The document, “Emoji Additions: Animals, Compatibility, and More Popular Requests,” doesn’t list any timeline on which these new emojis will hit our text streams—the last round of updates hasn’t even arrived yet, so this is probably a year or so off. But the notice does cite our report on the “lost emoji” from February of this year, right down to including the work of Gawker Media illustrator Sam Woolley. I guess our work on this planet is done; if you need me I’ll be passed out next to a pool with a mouthful of drugs and fine wine.
