Author and Nobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez has died in Mexico after a long illness, according to a source close to the family. He was 87 years old.

Márquez was known for his novels and short stories, which introduced readers the world over to magic realism and South American literature. Best known for Love in the Time of Cholera and the epic One Hundred Years of Solitude, Márquez was among the bestselling Spanish-language authors of all time.
