David Schwimmer turned over footage from the security cameras outside his East Village home that caught an early-morning brawl between two men and a suspected prostitute.

From the New York Post:

The brawl had broken out at around 5:40 a.m. in a first-floor apartment in a building on East Sixth Street that adjoins the actor's home. It spilled into the hallway before the men smashed through a glass lobby door.

Afterward, a 26-year-old john was taken to Bellevue Hospital with stab wounds to the face. His transvestite prostitute ran off, and a third combatant was arrested.

Robert Rainey, 21, of Newark was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery, the sources said.

Police only had the testimony of the two men, but after noticing Schwimmer's cameras, they asked to see the tape, which may be used in court.

One can only hope that his helping defend the neighborhood from drunken men with knives will improve his stature in the community, who are not interested in being friends with Ross Gellar or him living in their general vicinity and making a racket. He's convinced at least one neighbor.

"Four years ago, I would say David Schwimmer was the least popular guy on the block with the construction and all," resident Jayson Fillermutter, 31, told the Post. "But he has turned out to be a decent neighbor, and I am glad to hear he helped the cops with that stabbing."
