Going against the advice of several Republican governors, France has decided to continue efforts to help thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing from terrorists.

French president François Hollande—who, it must be noted, is neither a Republican governor nor a Democrat seeking reelection—announced Wednesday that the country will welcome as many as 30,000 refugees—all despite the fact that they had nothing to do with the Paris attacks.

“30,000 refugees will be welcomed over the next two years. Our country has the duty to respect this commitment,” Hollande said, reportedly explaining that “they will undergo vigorous security checks.”

President Obama, similarly, announced plans to accept up to 10,000 refugees “after they pass the highest security checks.”

“Slamming the door in [refugee’s] faces would be a betrayal of our values,” Obama said Tuesday. The question is, are those values polling well.
