Fifteen Missing After Tourist Boat Sinks in Indonesia
Fifteen people are missing following a boat capsizing in Indonesia. The boat sank while traveling between Lombok and the Komodo Islands, around 7p.m. local time on Sunday.
According to Budiawn, the head of the search and rescue agency in Mataram, the boat was carrying 20 foreign tourists and five Indonesian nationals. The rescued included citizens from New Zealand, Spain, Britain, and France.
The BBC reports that Suryaman, another Indonesian official, stated, "The incident took place…when the boat hit a reef and sank." He added that "Fishermen managed to rescue five of them alive later at night on Saturday, and five other foreigners were rescued by a sailing boat."
A search for the missing passengers is currently underway.
