Bankrupt By Beanies is a short documentary that tells the story of one family driven to financial ruin by the infamous stuffed animal craze of the mid-to-late '90s.

Director Chris Robinson, whose Beanie Babies-obsessed dad sank around $100 grand into the popular collectible expecting to eventually cash in, told Dazed Digital that his family still holds out hope that the toys might one day make a comeback and be worth something again.

It wasn't all for naught, though:

I’m mostly just apathetic to them at this point. I see the whole time period as one of bonding with my family, despite it being an extraordinary waste of money that would have been better spent on pretty much anything else. It was fun while it lasted, but then it was over and we got on with our lives.
