An out-of-control SUV slammed into a cyclist and two cars near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this morning, killing the cyclist and injuring three others.

Gothamist reports that when firefighters arrived on the scene just after 7 a.m., they found the cyclist dead in the middle of Atlantic Ave., in the intersection between Flatbush and Fourth Avenues. The bike was shattered into hundreds of pieces, which were reportedly found scattered up to a block and a half away.

Freelance Photographer Andy Katz arrived on the scene at 7:45. Witnesses told Katz that the driver of the SUV had approached Atlantic Avenue from Fourth Avenue, and rear-ended another motorist at the corner of Dean Street.

The SUV driver then crashed into the cyclist between Atlantic and Flatbush, struck a second vehicle, and then crashed into a steel pole in front of the LIRR entrance at Fourth Avenue and Flatbush.

“There is a shoe and a back wheel between Pacific and Atlantic,” Katz said. “There is a front wheel between Atlantic and Flatbush, and the frame of the bicycle is wedged under the the SUV’s front right wheel.”

According to the New York Post, two of the injured are in serious condition. It’s unclear what, if any, charges the SUV driver will face; setting aside authorities’ reluctance to thoroughly investigate and prosecute traffic accidents, it’s notoriously difficult to make charges stick in vehicular homicide cases in New York. Last year, 20 cyclists were killed in accidents in New York City

UPDATE 11:13 am: NBC New York reports that three people were injured in the accident, not seven as initially reported.
