Couple Uploads Beautiful Selfie From Phone They Might Have Stolen
These two lovebirds are wanted in connection to the burglary of a woman's home in Santa Clarita, Ca. Someone broke through a window and stole cash, jewelry, and electronics, including the phone the couple used to take this selfie with. They were determined persons of interest by police after their selfie was found backed up to the woman's cloud storage days after the burglary. "I don't know who these people are," the woman apparently told police.
It's still not clear, Deputy Joshua Dubin of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the Los Angeles Times, whether the couple are the ones behind the burglary or if they acquired the phone afterward.
This is apparently a first for the LAPD, which has used apps to track down stolen phones before, but "they have never had a case involving a selfie." Until now!
Update, 12:58 p.m.: These teens claim they didn't do it! "It's embarrassing," Larry Beltran Jr. told NBC Los Angeles. "I had no idea it would be all over the news or anything. That was just between me and my girlfriend."
Beltran's parents took him to the police station Wednesday night after the photos started spreading online and on the news. The teen's aunt apparently bought the phone at swap meet for $80. "I thought I got a good deal but I didn't know I put my nephew in a bad situation," Angie Cabrera said.
His parents are upset and are demanding an apology from police.
"We are here trying to do the right thing," the teen's father said. "I'm just upset that everybody is calling me saying 'Your son is on the news, your son did this.' Here I am at the station and they're telling me they don't know anything about it."
