For weeks, a man who apparently looks a bit like Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland conned the Beverly Hills Police Department into thinking it had booked a celebrity (into JAIL).

The Weiland lookalike was reportedly arrested in July after he shoplifted razors from a Rite-Aid in Beverly Hills, TMZ says. Police ultimately found meth on him as well, and as he was being arrested, he successfully pulled off the "do you know who I am" ploy.

After the police department issued a "celebrity statement" about the arrest, the real Weiland caught wind and posted a video online to show police they had a different man in custody.

Now police are apparently "actively investigating" the identity of the man they've had locked up since July.
