California Teen Dies Playing Russian Roulette
A California teenager died early Monday morning after losing a game of Russian Roulette to himself in his family's basement.
The 17-year-old was at his family's Torrance home with four other teens when the shooting occurred. The other kids—reportedly his cousins—"pleaded with the teen to put down the gun and stop playing," to no avail, the Los Angeles Times reports.
A security guard called 911 after hearing a fight coming from the apartment, which NBC reports might have been the cousins trying to stop the teen.
According to CBS, the teen's family wasn't aware that he had a gun until it was too late.
A loaded gun was found near the building, according to CBS2's Jasmine Viel. Family members said they don't know where the victim obtained the gun, so they tossed the gun out of the apartment in fear, according to Viel.
The teen was reportedly living with his brother and his brother's wife at the time. Police say they do not expect to file charges in the case.
