Bill Cosby's Lawyer Accuses Alleged Sexual Assault Victim of Extortion
On Tuesday, Judy Huth filed a civil lawsuit claiming that in 1974 when she was 15 years old, Bill Cosby took her to the Playboy mansion, gave her alcohol, and sexually assaulted her. Cosby's attorney is now seeking to dismiss that lawsuit.
The Associated Press reports that Cosby's attorney Martin Singer wrote in a filing that "the lawsuit by Judy Huth and her attorney followed a failed attempt to extort $250,000 from Cosby." On top of that, Singer says Huth's claims—of course—are false. Cosby is now seeking $33,000 from Huth.
Regardless of the outcome in these civil suits, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Thursday that the department will investigate "any reports of abuse against Cosby, even if they were outside the statute of limitations for prosecution." He explained:
"We don't turn people away because things are out of statute. You come to us, especially with a sexual allegation, we will work with you. We address these things seriously—and it's not just because it's Mr. Cosby.
Cosby has never been charged with sexual assault, despite the many allegations against him.
