Ariana Grande Condemns Slut-Shaming, Calls for Women's Liberation
On Sunday, singer Ariana Grande posted a statement on Twitter discussing a range of feminist topics, from the objectification of women to the persistence of misogyny, closing her message with a quotation from women’s liberation leader Gloria Steinem.

The statement began by explaining why Grande refused to be defined as former boyfriend Big Sean’s “ex” and criticizing society’s treatment of women as the property of men.
“I... do not. belong. to anyone. but myself,” wrote Grande. “and neither do you.”
Grande also decried the sexual double standards men and women are held to, writing, “If a woman has a lot of sex (or any sex for that matter).... she’s a ‘slut.’ If a man has sex..... HE’S. A. STUD. a BOSSSSSS. a KING.”
Perhaps most importantly, however, Grande’s message identified the fight for sexual equality as an on-going struggle requiring solidarity.
“Gloria Steinem published an article in 1969 titled ‘After Black Power, Women’s Liberation,’” wrote Grande, “and 46 years later... we’re still not quite there yet!”
