The comparison kinda makes both hot dogs and legs seem really gross.
That is exactly the thing about it, isn't it.
I mean before I saw them as legs hot dogs were a nice treat, a few tomatoes, a nice bun, mustard, ketchup..yum, but now it's like "what am I doing putting this sweaty leg in my mouth"

This fad is all about the thigh gap: showing how your thighs are concave in just the spot where most girls'/women's thighs expand outward. Part of being "Paris thin" which is achieved by not eating. Maybe 1-2% of women have legs that naturally look like that and the rest either don't eat or exercise to excess or some combination of the two.
