Americans Support Legal Pot for the First Time Ever
It's been a big year for pot, with the states of Washington and Colorado both legalizing the drug for recreational use and many more proposing legalization or already allowing it for medical reasons (or just looking the other way). And now, for the first time ever, a majority of Americans are in favor of weed's full legalization.
The fact that some legalization has already happened may have contributed to increased positive attitudes: 58 percent of Americans polled favored legalization, compared to just 12 percent in 1969.
Maybe we've figured out that occasional marijuana use isn't about to usher in the total breakdown of society. According to the same poll, a whopping 38 percent of Americans have at some point or another smoked weed. Last week, there was even a "weed fairy" depositing baggies of the stuff around New York City, accompanied by a message to "keep your spirits high."
Looks like the majority of the population would happily accept the invitation.
