Alan Rickman, Star of Everything He Appeared In, Has Died of Cancer
Alan Rickman, the charismatic British character actor who played larger-than-life heroes, villains and Ronald Reagans throughout his 30-year film and stage career, has died from cancer. He was 69.
Rickman’s career was, in a word, expansive, spanning (according to IMDB) close to 70 films and TV appearances—many of them major blockbusters. Though he was often cast as a villain (See: Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Die Hard, Harry Potter, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) Rickman’s charisma and humor often made it hard to root for the story’s hero.
Rickman, who was twice nominated for a Tony, was also known for his stage work, both in London and New York.
Rickman is reportedly survived by his partner of 50 years, Rima Horton. According to a statement published by the BBC, he died surrounded by his family and friends.
