AK-47-Toting Bank Robbers Killed in Shootout After 100-MPH Car Chase
Bank robbers driving a stolen car and carrying at least one AK-47 led more than 50 police cars on a chase through Stockton, California yesterday after robbing a Bank of the West branch. A hostage and two of the robbers were killed in a shootout with police after the chase.
Misty Holt-Singh, the hostage who died, was used as a human shield by the suspects. The robbers took three hostages, Stockton's The Record newspaper reports — two bank employees and a bystander.
From The Record:
"This is crazy," said Stockton resident Jordan Morales, a 25-year-old Army veteran. "It looks like something I saw in Afghanistan - so many bullet holes."

The suspects commandeered a bank employee's Ford Explorer and sped away with the hostages inside, firing at officers during a pursuit that reached speeds of 100 mph, authorities said. The Explorer went north on Highway 99 through Lodi to Acampo, circled back to Stockton, crossed over to Interstate 5 and traversed numerous city streets.
At least 14 police cars and several homes were hit by bullets over the course of the ordeal, The Record reports. The two surviving hostages either jumped or were tossed from the stolen SUV during the chase, and both are expected to survive.
