Pentagon officials confirmed to CNN that ISIS-held oil refineries in eastern Syria were the latest target in the U.S.-led military campaign launched Monday night. U.S. forces executed the strike earlier today, with assistance from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Oil is a major source of wealth for the Islamic State: ISIS has purportedly been making up to $2 million per day from selling it, according to Pentagon Spokesman Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby. NBC News is reporting that 12 oil refineries were targeted, along with one ISIS-controlled vehicle.

These strikes follow bombings on targets in Iraq and Syria on late Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.
