Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old robotics enthusiast arrested last month for bringing a homemade clock to school (teachers apparently thought it was a bomb), has accepted a scholarship from the Qatar Foundation to study at its Young Innovators Program.

On Monday, Reuters reports, Mohamed met with President Barack Obama for an astronomy night at the White House. Shortly after Mohamed’s arrest, the president’s Twitter feed issued its support: “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”

A few hours later, his family said in a statement, Mohamed decided to accept the Qatar Foundation’s offer: “This means, that we, as a family, will relocate to Qatar where Ahmed will receive a full scholarship for secondary and undergraduate education.”

Can you blame them?
