Aaron Schock Defends His Downton-Styled Office By Invoking Taylor Swift
American recording artist Taylor Swift once sang, "The players gonna play, play, play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate." It's a powerful message, and one used by the congressman with the reddest walls and most pronounced abdominals to explain his Downton Abbey-inspired office. Allow Illinois rep. Aaron Schock to explain.
Schock's been lampooned for the garish, fiery design of his office after Washington Post reporter Ben Terris found his way into the hallowed halls and published a piece earlier this week. ABC News' Jeff Zeleny ambushed Schock for a segment that aired last night, and the congressman did his best to defend his Edwardian horror. He first tells Zeleny that he apparently didn't know his office was decorated in the image of House Crawley until he read about it in the press. He goes on:
Zeleny: What do people back home in Peoria think of this?
Schock: Well, I've never been an old crusty white guy...
Zeleny: What does that mean?
Schock: Well, I'm different. I came to Congress when I was 27. You know when I take a vacation I don't sit on the beach, I do active things. *waves arms* And so I'm not going to live in a cave, so when I post an Instagram photo of me and my friends, and it's you know...as Taylor Swift said, 'Haters are gonna hate.'
So true.
