5 days left before Default.
Are any other Americans actually getting worried about it? I would LIKE to think the nutjob Republicans wouldn't let this happen, but then I remember that they think absolutely nothing bad will occur if a default happens and realize they have absolutely no idea how these things work.
I would also like to think that the Democrats won't give in and legitimize this tactic for several reasons
1) because I don't want to see the Republican's smug smiling faces like they just won the lottery,
2) because it would legitimize what they did, thus we would be seeing it any single time they want to get what they want and
3) because I've actually been benefiting from the ACA and would like to see it continue.
But then I realize that they actually somewhat care about running this country so they might give in just to get it working again.
Anyone else getting a little legitimately worried?

Deals usually get done at the last minute. This happens in nearly every massive scale negotiation I can recall in recent memory. We're all fucked regardless, it just finding out who's doing it, and who's getting blamed.

Oh, they do. I recall with the last debt ceiling debate they came up with some last minute 11th hour (literally) deal that didn't work in the end...but the problem was that was done AFTER all the damage had gone out. Our credit rating took a hit simply because we were even having the debate of defaulting and money on the markets just evaporated out of fear of what was happening.

I'm very legitimately worried. The GOP is so paranoid and insane they will take this whole country down as an acceptable consequence of destroying Obamacare. Some of them are already making noise about the Oct. 17 deadline being not that big a deal. It's like the scene in Ghostbusters where Walter Peck shuts down the containment unit.
I should be worried, but I'm not. I just feel tired when I think of it. And powerless. There is nothing I can do. I voted against my stupid Republican congressman and would do it again. At this point I'm just reading to sigh, bend over and take whatever shit they're going to give me.

Oh, and don't waste our fucking money on fancy ones in the future: recycled ones done with a bic pen are fine, so long as the folks can read their name, right?

Full judicial force will be brought to bear to effect your arrest, trial and conviction. I remind you that treason is punishable by death. Anyone - citizen, corporation or organization - found to be aiding and abetting known fugitives will be arrested and prosecuted as co-conspirators. Charges of sedition will be levelled at anyone found to be couselling or otherwise promoting treasonous acts. There will be no declaration of martial law, nor will we invoke martial law. The military will not be called to act upon American soil, though the National Guard will be on standby for keeping the peace, as is their purview. Don't darken my door again without presenting two full and complete bills, ready to sign, that will end the shutdown and raise the debt ceiling. Now get off of my carpet!"
