Three people were killed in a helicopter crash early Sunday morning in northern Los Angeles County. The crash occurred during filming for an untitled military-themed reality TV show set to air on the Discovery Channel.

"A production company was shooting a show for Discovery Channel when this tragic accident occurred," Discovery said in a statement. "We are all cooperating fully with authorities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families."

According to the LA Times, Eyeworks USA, the show's production company, had a permit from FilmLA to fly the copter from 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. A spokesman said FilmLA did not have a monitor on set, but there was an advisor from the LA County Fire Department on site.

The accident took place at the Polsa Rosa Ranch, a popular area for TV and movie shoots. In September of last year, a diver died at Polsa Rosa while preparing an underwater scene for The Lone Ranger. The helicopter crash was the worst on-set accident in California since 1982, when three actors (including two children) were killed by a helicopter crash during the filming of Twilight Zone: The Movie.
