Colorado Mother Arrested for Driving to Her Daughter's School and Threatening Her Bullies with a Semi-Automatic Weapon
A woman in Denver was arrested yesterday after she allegedly used a gun to threaten four girls she believed were bullying her daughter.
According to the arrest document, 34-year-old Monica Avila drove to her daughter's school, where she spotted the four teenage girls and parked her car nearby. While still in her car, Avila confronted the girls and accused them of bullying her daughter.
She then reportedly exposed a black semi-automatic handgun and told the girls "looks what I have."
She subsequently drove across the street and parked her car after the girls ran away to alert adults to the events that transpired. Officers were called to the area and found Avila in her car. A search of the vehicle turned up a gun.
The incident in question took place last Thursday, one day before the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Avila was booked into Denver County Jail on four counts of felony menacing and one count of possession of a weapon on school grounds. Her bail was set at $50,000.
Also yesterday, a sixth-grader in Kearns, Utah, brought a gun to school, claiming it was given to him by his parents for protection in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Correction: The headline of this post previously misidentified Ms. Avila as a "Utah mother." She is, obviously, from Colorado.
