The Entire East Coast is On Fire Right Now, According to this Dazzling Image from NASA
NASA has just released some nighttime images of Earth taken by an ultra-sensitive satellite 512 miles above its surface and They. Are. Gorgeous.
The image above is of the beautiful fairyland known as the United States. io9 posted a video of the entire Earth (including non-American parts) rotating at night, assembled from a composite of satellite photographs.
NASA has taken to referring to the twinkling Earth of these images as a "Black Marble," because their primitive minds cannot conceive of "planets."
One of the coolest things about the pictures is that they don't just show light from cities and towns.
According to NASA, the satellite also picked up wild fires, gas flares, auroras, the lights off solitary ships at sea, and even "reflected moonlight."
Write a poem about that.
Here are the full versions of the photos. Check out the HQ images on The official NASA flickr.
