A giant 'softball-sized' eyeball washed up on a beach in south Florida yesterday, and no one has any idea what it belongs to.

From the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Facebook page:

The FWC Tequesta Field Lab received a call that a citizen from Pompano Beach found what appeared to be a giant eye. Our staff in South Florida picked it up and placed it on ice. It will be sent for possible identification.

Among the theories currently being floated: A giant squid, a whale, or a very large swordfish. Or Cthulhu.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute will attempt to determine its origin after its been properly preserved in formalin to avoid decay.

In the meantime, go nuts.
