Chipotle Manager Who Photobombed Mitt Romney Speaks: 'It’s a Facial Expression I Do When I’m Excited'
20-year-old Marty Arps was just a run-of-the-mill branch manager at a Denver-area Chipotle until a close encounter with Mitt Romney propelled him to Internet superstardom.
"It's a facial expression I do when I'm excited," Arps told the Daily about his insta-viral photobombing of the GOP presidential nominee, who stopped by the restaurant yesterday to pick up two carnitas bowls with extra guac. "I [did that] when I met Nicki Minaj. It's like, ‘Ah, it's them, right there in front of you!' They're not from another world."
Maybe not, but, at first sight, Arps thought Romney and his Secret Service entourage might be a bunch of bad dudes looking for trouble. "All of a sudden you see these black SUVs come up really quick and I thought we were about to get robbed," he told the iPad-centric publication.
But all went better than expected, and Romney even left behind a $1.75 tip on an $18.25 tab. "There was nothing political," Arps, who wants to be "either comedian or a parole officer someday," insists. "He was just a customer."
As for who has his vote on November 6th, Arps says he remains undecided.
