Inmates at Famous Filipino Prison Do Choreographed Dance Number to 'Gangnam Style'
The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center — a maximum security prison in the Philippine City of Cebu — is best known for its controversial method of rehabilitation: Elaborately choreographed dance routines featuring hundreds of the detention center's inmates.
In 2007, footage of Cebu Provincial prisoners dancing in unison to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" went viral on YouTube, becoming one of the most watched videos of all time with over 50,000,000 views to date.
Since then, the prisoners have performed regularly for members of the public, occasionally receiving allowances and other good-behavior incentives.
Most recently, "due to insistent public demand" (according to the video's description) and despite pouring rain, the "world renowned dancing inmates" — some 1,000 of them — put on a show based around K-pop sensation Psy's global hit song "Gangnam Style."
