Iran's Top News Agency Duped by Onion Article Claiming 'Rural Whites Prefer Ahmadinejad to Obama' [UPDATE]
The Fars News Agency, Iran's leading, "semi-state-run" news agency, might want to spend a little less time bashing America, and little more time acquainting itself with the Great Satan's parody news organizations.
In an article published today on the FNA website — and likely picked up by other media outlets in Iran — the news agency quotes liberally from a Gallup poll claiming "77 percent of rural Caucasian voters...would much rather go to a baseball game or have a drink with Ahmadinejad than spend time with Obama," and 60 percent of the rural whites surveys "said they at least respected that Ahmadinejad doesn't try to hide the fact that he's Muslim."
One tiny problem: That poll was entirely made up by America's Finest News Source, The Onion.
In Fars defense, it could just as easily have been a real poll.
UPDATE: Someone finally tipped Fars off to the fact that they had plagiarized a parody news site, but their shame has been screengrabbed by Robert Mackey for posterity.
