Katie Couric's new daytime talkshow is barely 24 hours old and it's already the source of controversy.

On yesterday's inaugural episode of Katie, guest Sheryl Crow volunteered a theory that her benign brain tumor was the result of cell phone use.

"There are no doctors that will confirm that," the 50-year-old singer told Couric, "[but] I do have the theory that it's possible that it's related to that."

As The Blemish put it, "oh, good, another celebrity with a theory."

Indeed: Crow said her meningioma was located in the "cell phone area" — a clinical term, no doubt — and placed the blame on excessive cell phone use early on in her career: "[In the] early, early days when I was promoting my first record, I did hours of phoners on the old archaic cell phones."

Of course, there is no existing data to back any of this up. Then again, there have been no long-term studies on the effects of cell phones on verbal diarrhea.

Someone should definitely get on that.
