82-year-old Doris Thompson has had quite the career in crime. The octogenarian burglar has a twenty page rap sheet that dates back to 1955. She has at least 25 aliases. And she's been imprisoned nine times since 1983. With a career like that, you'd think Thompson would be satisfied and ready to retire. But this week, Los Angeles police will submit evidence linking Thompson to eight recent burglaries, most of which took place in different doctors' offices.

Thompson's method was allegedly this: she'd enter a doctor's office during regular hours, hide somewhere, then come out at night to break into the office's cash box. All told, she stole some $17,000. She was convicted of a similar crime two years ago, when she broke into the Children's Medical Group in Torrance, California.

"That's her M.O.," Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Paulette Paccione said at the time. "What she does is she goes in with her little burglar bag. She takes cash, stamps, whatever she can find."

Police were able to track Thompson because of her distinct hair, which, as the LA Times puts it, she "wears in a stand-on-its-end electric style similar to boxing promoter Don King."

Thompson is currently being held on $80,000 bail. Even if she beats the rap, it's a safe bet she'll be a similar situation again soon.

"I don't think this will stop her from doing this again," Paccione said back then. "She's not really apologetic about it. This is her thing."
