Shia LaBeouf Got Into Character for Upcoming Film by Dropping Acid On Set
Between penis modeling and unsimulated sex acts, long-past-former child star Shia LaBeouf is becoming quite the character actor.
Adding to his new-found thespic gravitas, LaBeouf admitted to USA Today that he took real-life LSD to prepare for an upcoming film in which his character drops acid.
"Sometimes, it does get real," he told the publication, referring to the production of the crime comedy The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. "Too real for a (director) who's trying to keep a diplomatic set."
LaBeouf scoffed at faux-realism in films that pretend to show drug use but don't have the balls to be honest.
"There's a way to do an acid trip like Harold & Kumar, and there's a way to be on acid," he said. "What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that (electric) chair in Dead Man Walking. These are the guys that I look up to."
The 26-year-old recently swore off big budget films, excoriating studios for "stick[ing] a finger up your ass." Given the things LaBeouf is into now, it's quite possible he meant that literally.
