Here's What the Student Reporter Was Filming During the Red and Black 'Scuffle'
Grady Newsource has released some (rather unclear) video of the "scuffle on the ground" that interrupted a recent meeting at the University of Georgia's Red and Black newspaper headquarters.
The paper's controversial publisher Harry Montevideo has also issued an apology to Josh Buce, the reporter who was filming.
First off, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to you, in regards to my participation in the altercation at The Red and Black editorial offices on Friday. As the senior adult and professional, it was my responsibility to handle it differently and I regret that I did not do that.
I had already asked our business manager to call law enforcement and in hindsight, should have waited for them to escort you from the building. I allowed my frustration from repeated discussions and arguments with you earlier in the day, to momentarily cloud my judgment, that was a mistake on my part, I do know better.
As I explained to you, the recruitment "Open House" held upstairs in our editorial offices, was solely intended to offer students interested in working at The Red and Black the opportunity to learn about us and fill out an application if interested. I felt strongly then, as I do now, it was inappropriate and unfair to the students to have the media cover that event.
I wish you much success in your studies at UGA and if it is your desire, a successful career as journalist upon graduation.
Accusations of tackling aside, this minor altercation is still less interesting than the bizarre internal memo that caused the Red and Black staff to resign.
