Thousands of LGBTQ community members and their supporters have pledged to attend "National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A" — a large-scale protest of Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's controversial opposition to marriage equality.

At 8 PM ET, same-sex couples around the country will gather at their local Chick-fil-A restaurant and commence kissing in public. Participants are encouraged to submit photos to the official National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A Tumblr page.

"The event is intended to show Chick-Fil-A how many people their donations and decisions are affecting, not to disturb business," said event organizer Carly McGehee in a statement. She and the other organizers make it clear in the event's Facebook page that National Same Sex Kiss Day is not a response to Mike Huckabee's Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, but the other way around.

Still, it's highly unlikely that today's event will match the success of Huckabee's "cash mob." The hundreds of thousands who showed up at Chick-fil-A locations to express their support helped the company set a new single-day sales record.
