CNN's T.J. Holmes Stopped by Cops for 'Driving While Black'
T. J. Holmes was one mile from his Atlanta home when he was suddenly pulled over by two police cars. The normally affable CNN anchor proceeded to live-tweet the stop, getting progressively angerier with every status update.
"Driving while black ain't no joke!" Holmes told his 50,000 Twitter followers, attaching a photo of the police car visible in his side mirror.
Holmes noted twice that the officer speaking with him was having trouble articulating the reason he had been pulled over. "This is a damn shame. Officer is literally stumbling over his words trying to explain why he stopped me," he tweeted.
The officer, Holmes goes on to claim, "just" wanted to verify that he had car insurance ("I kid you not").
With the incident in his rearview, Holmes posted two more updates, both with the hashtag #showmeyourpapers. "Pissed beyond words," Holmes remarked that his relationship with local police "may have just soured a bit."
He promised to post a full write-up on his experience to his personal blog.
