Cool girls named Meghan from middle school agree that there is no more gifted artist of this or any century than Lisa Frank.

The inspiration for the modern weather phenomenon known as "a rainbow," Frank built her empire out of Trapper Keepers depicting such scenes as a polar bear and puffins gossiping beneath a technicolor sky, golden retriever puppies reclining in a technicolor desert, and The Incredulity of Saint Thomas.

Despite the blindingly bright visibility of her work, Lisa Frank herself is notoriously private. Following a recent interview with The Daily—her first in years—it's clear why.

This woman is crazy.

Here are some of the highlights from the interview, available in full here:

  • Lisa Frank on understanding what life was like for the most successful entertainer of all time:
  • "In my own little way, I understood Michael Jackson...We think about it a lot, how well known the name is, but I'm very, very low-key."

  • Lisa Frank on tricks to outwit the relentless paparazzi working the check-out counters of her local Tuscon mall:
  • "If I use my credit card...and they go, 'Oh my gosh, there's Lisa Frank who makes the stickers!' I go, 'Isn't that the craziest thing, that I have the same name?'"

  • Lisa Frank on her groundbreaking early design work:
  • "I would put, like, Betty Boop on a unicorn."

  • Lisa Frank laments the fact that "the normal working woman" can only afford to buy clothing in black, because luxury label Missoni is the only designer "doing color."
  • Because she is rich, Lisa Frank owns clothing that is not black.
  • "I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford it."

  • She wants to partner with either Missoni or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen—they of the $39,000 backpack—to create a line of affordable non-black colored clothing for paupers.
  • Lisa Frank wants there to be Lisa Frank-themed episodes of Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, and Project Runway.
  • Lisa Frank is raising her sons, Forrest, 13, and Hunter, 17 (who share their names with a rainbow tiger cub and rainbow leopard cub, respectively) in a house that sounds like a Lisa Frank nightmare.
  • "My house really is purple and yellow and hot pink and light green and orange."

Here are the two photographs of Lisa Frank available on the Internet.
