Five people were shot at Rucker Park in Harlem Wednesday night, after a dispute over a call during a basketball game for the Entertainers Basketball Classic.
A witness told the Daily News:
They started arguing, about a bad call or something like that...The guy was standing no more than five feet away from me. He pulled a gun out of his pocket and shot once. He then shot one more time. Everyone started running.
In response to the park shooting, Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer released the following statement this morning:
The senseless shootings last night at the Rucker Park basketball court in Harlem are just one more reminder that New York City must have zero tolerance for gun violence of any kind. The safety of our streets is a top priority for all residents, and guaranteeing it is a responsibility we all share. Our communities must join forces with the New York Police Department to crack down on gun possession, get illegal weapons off the streets and spread the message that this kind of criminal activity has no place in our City. I wish a speedy recovery for the five victims of this crime, and urge anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward and share it with the NYPD.
Former New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson was present, but he escaped unharmed. All five victims were rushed to a nearby hospital; all are expected to survive.
