Oscar-Winning Actress Celeste Holm Dies at 95
After a long and celebrated career on stage and screen, Celeste Holm died today at 95.
Holm's breakout Broadway role was as Ado Annie in the original 1943 production of Oklahoma! Shortly after that, she began her film career, signing with 20th Century Fox. She quickly earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Gentleman's Agreement in 1947.
Holm was also nominated for her roles in Come to the Stable and All About Eve. Despite her cinematic success, she announced that she preferred the stage to the screen, mostly taking roles in Broadway musicals.
Later in her career, Holm did more films and TV appearances, but she is best remembered for her early work. She married often, most recently 41-year-old opera singer Frank Basile, whom she wed on her 87th birthday. He survives her.
