College Student Fakes Own Kidnapping to Get Out of Handing in Paper
22-year-old college student Susan Paola Fadel Correia of Belém in northern Brazil admitted to authorities that she made up a story about being kidnapped in order to avoid having to hand in a school project on time.
Fadel told police she was abducted by three men and held captive for 24 hours before she managed to escape. In her confession, Fadel said she had actually spent the day at a friend's house.
Officer Gilvandro Furtado said the young woman didn't want to reveal to her mother that she has been having school problem, worried she would get upset. "She did not want to upset her mother yet again as the same thing happened last term," said Furtado.
Police have charged Fadel with making false accusations, a crime which carries a potential sentence of six months behind bars.
