Whether or not you think we need a Spider-Man reboot, a significant chunk of people obviously do. The Amazing Spider-Man, which retells the superhero's origin story, broke Tuesday records with a $35 million opening.

Of course, a Tuesday opening means a lot less competition, but it's still impressive to get audiences to flock to theaters in the middle of the week. The previous record holder, Transformers, earned $27.9 million on a Tuesday. Both films came out the day before the Fourth of July.

Holidays let us get a little screwy about opening dates, but it will be interesting to see how Spider-Man's success carries over to the weekend. Reviews for the reboot (and Andrew Garfield's performance as the titular webslinger) have been fairly positive overall.
