You might not know the name "Kathryn Joosten," but there's a good chance you'd recognize her face.

The character actor best known for playing President Bartlet's secretary Mrs. Landingham on The West Wing and Mrs. McCluskey on Desperate Housewives has died from lung cancer. She was 72.

Joosten, who didn't begin acting until age 42, mostly played lovable older characters — many of whom died. (Not always by natural causes either. Goddamn you, drunk driver who hit Mrs. Landingham.) Her other credits include Scrubs, My Name Is Earl, and Dharma & Greg.

Also, if this photo is any indication, she was kind of a badass.
