Principal photography began last Friday for the film adaptation of Stephen Rebello's Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho — a non-fiction title which tells the story of how Hitchcock's classic thriller Psycho came to be.

The movie will pay special attention to the auteur's relationship with his wife Alma Reville during the filming of Psycho.

Starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as the titular character, Hitchcock also features Dame Helen Mirren in the role of Reville, James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, and Jessica Biel as Vera Miles. Toni Collette will co-star as Hitchcock's secretary Peggy.

The adaptation was penned by Black Swan co-writer John McLaughlin; Sacha Gervasi, director of Anvil! The Story of Anvil, will be at the helm.

No release date has yet been set.
