If your gmail is down right now, you're not the only one. There's currently a widespread outage, judging from Twitter—our own Maureen O'Connor reports that her gmail is displaying this sad "Temporary Error" message. We have no idea what's causing it, but for now, the best course of action is to pretend that you can't do any work at all without your email and go outside.

Update: Google writes in a short note on their status page: "We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Mail. We will provide more information shortly." Also, the issue is affecting less than 2% of Gmail users.

Update 2: Looks like Gmail is fixed. Maureen's Gmail is back. At 1:24pm Google wrote: "Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future." Put down that beach ball and get back to work.
