Rape Cop Guilty For a Change
NYPD officer Michael Pena was found guilty of sexual assault yesterday for drunkenly kidnapping a Manhattan woman off the street and sexually assaulting her in an alleyway last summer. Pena's novel "didn't mean to" defense apparently did not work. Huh.
Although his "it was only attempted rape" defense did work—he wasn't actually convicted of rape, because there was not definitive evidence of "intercourse." Convicting an NYPD officer of rape? That's not done around here. Baby steps.
