Mom Denied Food Stamps, Shoots Self and Kids
Rachelle Grimmer, a 38 year old mother of two in Texas, had been trying to qualify for food stamps "for months" without success. On Monday, she went to a Laredo welfare office with her kids and a gun. After a seven-hour standoff, she killed herself and shot both of her children, who are now in critical condition.
Ms. Grimmer first applied for food stamps in July but was denied because she did not turn in enough information, said Stephanie Goodman, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
Ms. Goodman said it was not immediately clear what information was missing.
During the standoff, Grimmer Grimmer's daughter, Ramie, changed her Facebook page to read "may die 2day." Ramie had two profile pictures: one of herself and her brother, and one of a sign reading "I [Heart] My Best Friend Always & 4ever."
