Fifty-two-year-old Clifton Vial of Nome, Alaska, who does not sound like the sharpest knife in the proverbial psychotic Alaskan woodsman's knife belt, decided to go for a spin in his Toyota Tacoma last week "to see how far a road winding to the north would take him." It took him—and the six-pack of beer he had in the cab—to a snowdrift about 40 miles outside of town, where he became stuck with no supplies. Except for that beer:

His only provisions: Snow, and a few cans of Coors Light that had frozen solid in the cab.

Vial ate the beers like cans of beans. "I cut the lids off and dug it out with a knife," he said.

I can only imagine the kind of sheer, burning will to live it would take to eat frozen Coors Light instead of allowing the inviting, warm darkness of death to envelop me. But Clifton Vial was rescued three days later, having lost 16 pounds, escaped frostbite. I hope it was worth it. [Anchorage Daily News, image via Shutterstock]
