If you're the kind of person who likes to casually drop Debbie Downer statistics into your holiday party conversations, here's some new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that will certainly be of interest to you: 8 million adults reported considering suicide at some point between 2008 and 2009, and 2 million actually made plans to do it.

That's one in 100 Americans, or one percent of the general population. (But not that one percent.) Utah had the highest rate of any state, with one in 15 residents saying they have given serious thought to suicide; Georgia had the lowest, with one in 50. 1 million adults attempted suicide, with Rhode Island reporting the highest rate of attempts: 1 in 67. An average of 35,000 successfully commit suicide every year.

Asked to comment, Kim Kardashian noted, "SPRINKLES!"
