Guess Who Palin's Ex-Handler Bases Her Novel's 'Mentally Ill' Politician On?
Nicolle Wallace, a former George W. Bush flack whom the McCain '08 campaign assigned to Sarah Palin to help her get through the day without ruining everything, did not come out of that particular episode with the best feelings toward Sarah Palin!
Wallace's experience with the All-American Grifter has inspired her to write a novel that "explores what would happen if a woman were plucked from relative obscurity and elected Vice President of the United States - only to find herself completely unprepared for the job." Hmm.
Wallace goes so far as to label her vice president character "mentally ill" in this Time interview:
In the book, the vice presidential character, Tara Meyers, is completely unfit for her job.
The idea of a mentally ill vice president who suffers in complete isolation was obviously sparked by the behaviors I witnessed by Sarah Palin. What if somebody who was ill-equipped for the office were to ascend to the presidency or vice presidency? What would they do? How long would it take for people to figure it out? I became consumed by this question.
Don't worry, Nicolle Wallace. It didn't take "people" that long to figure it out, which is part of why the McCain-Palin ticket fared poorly in the 2008 presidential election. The system works, -ish!
