There's an interesting little riddle under discussion in Washington, DC right now: Why did a former senior ACLU lawyer decide he didn't like working for Facebook's lobbying operation? I mean, isn't Facebook known for safeguarding individual liberty and privacy at any cost?

Tim Sparapani, "one of Facebook's earliest hires in Washington" when he left his senior legislative counsel gig at the American Civil Liberties Union, has left Facebook's lobbying team for undisclosed reasons, Politico reports. The social network's public policy team has reportedly undergone something of a restructuring as its spending grows. "Tim Sparapani decided to transition out of the company last month," a Facebook spokesman wrote. "He has made a lasting impact by helping build our DC team and policy portfolio." Whoever made the call, it's probably not going to be too hard to unravel the mystery of why a civil libertarian is not such a great fit for Facebook going forward.
