The Creator of Ziggy Dies at 80
Tom Wilson, the illustrator who invented the hapless Ziggy character for American Greetings, passed away Friday from complications due to pneumonia. He was 80.
Wilson invented the round-headed man for a line of greeting cards 40 years ago and he later appeared in a syndicated comic strip and cartoon show as well as on every marketable flat surface the card stores could dream up. In the '80s, when he retired, he handed over the character and his comic strip to his son. Now we're going to need a Ziggy condolence card.
